In the case that garnered national media attention, local Chico attorneys, Scott Wippert and Robyn Bramson achieved great results in defending Brandon Mclinerny, the 17 year old accused of shooting and killing his classmate in 2008.  The Ventura County District Attorney's Office charged, the then 14 year old Brandon as an adult.  After 36 days of testimony and deliberating for a little more than 15 hours, the jury was split 7 to 5 in favor of voluntary manslaughter resulting in a mistrial.
