Ryan Birss obtained his Juris Doctor from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2013. He has been a member of the California Bar since May 2014.
At UC Hastings, Mr. Birss was a member of the Hastings Law Journal where he served as an articles editor and had his student note published. He also was recognized at graduation as a member of the Pro Bono Society for his volunteer efforts throughout law school. Prior to law school, he attended the University of Oregon where he double majored in Political Science and Business Administration, graduating Cum Laude.
Throughout law school, Mr. Birss gained substantial criminal defense experience representing clients and arguing a variety of motions including numerous motions to suppress under the supervision of deputy public defenders. Mr. Birss has interned at the Contra Costa Superior Court, the Office of the Primary Public Defender in San Diego County, the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, and the Office of the State Public Defender. Following the February 2014 Bar, Mr. Birss worked as a law clerk for the Solano County Public Defender’s Office.
